4th Annual 24 Hour Film Dash screenings

April 28th-29th was the 4th Annual 24 Hour Film Dash.  Fifteen teams from across the Valley raced to complete a 3-5 minute film within 24 hours.

The Start and End of the Dash as at Cine El Rey in McAllen from noon to noon.  Five random elements were chosen during the kickoff meeting that the teams must incorporate into their film. 

Those elements are:  AN ENVIRONMENTALIST, A HELMET, THROWING A DRINK IN SOMEONE'S FACE, "I'M ALLERGIC TO THAT" and the theme was BETRAYAL.  All fifteen teams raced across the Valley as they wrote, directed and edited their film, meeting all 5 elements, and turning in their film on time.

The Celebrity Judges then watched the films and made their choices for Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Under 17 Team, Best Film and many more awards!

The Celebrity Judges were:

Brandon Garcia is editor of Festiva Magazine and The Monitor's features and entertainment content. A native of McAllen, he studied film at the University of Texas at Austin and has written and produced several independent stage musicals.

 

Hitman started in radio January 1st 1986 on KRGV 1290AM as a overnight jock at 18 years old, since then have worked at KUAM 94.7 energy 99FM, KBFM, KIXY-FM, KFRQ-FM, KHKZ-FM, and now KQXX-fm and KNCN-FM. He went to Edcouch-Elsa High School, did 5 years in the US NAVY on the USS REEVES (CG-24) in Japan. He has been in the radio for over 25 years and he's still loving it!

 

Polo Sandoval is an award-winning reporter and news anchor for KRGV Channel 5 News. He began his studies at South Texas College and the University of Texas-Pan American. He was ultimately awarded his undergraduate degree in electronic media from Texas State University in San Marcos. His career in television news began early in life as an intern at KTBC Fox 7 News in Austin, where he reported and field produced. His career eventually brought him back home to the Rio Grande Valley in the summer of 2007. He defined his passion for true storytelling after joining the news team at KRGV. Polo's assignments have taken him to nearly every corner of the Valley. Today he reports and co-anchors Channel 5 News at 4 and Channel 5 News at 6.

 

 

On Saturday, May 5th, we will be screening all 15 films at Cine El Rey in McAllen.  Doors open at 5pm.  We will start screening the films at 6pm.  There will be a $10 admission fee.  

After the screenings, there will be an awards ceremony.  We will announce the Celebrity Judges' results and you will also have an opportunity to vote for Audience Choice.
