The Mitte Cultural District will be hosting a vigil Friday morning in memory of RJ Mitte, the actor and disability-rights activist, who died in Brownsville on Monday.
The vigil will be held at 10 a.m. at The Mitte: Arts and Cultural Center located at 600 E. Ringgold St. in Brownsville.
Mitte served as president of the Mitte Foundation and focused his efforts on creating connections and opening doors for the arts for future generations.
Those who knew him from the foundation have said that his efforts in the community “will never be forgotten” highlighting that like his family, he understood the importance of building something meaningful and believed in the power of arts and culture to bring communities together.
Mitte rose to fame for his role in the TV series “Breaking Bad,” in which he played the son of Walter White. His character was a young man battling cerebral palsy. This, too, was a real life battle for Mitte, who spoke often about his condition.
